Part 1-Detour to Hawaii: We found a military flight from Jacksonville to Hawaii, with possible flights back to either northern California or Washington with a stop-over of three days. We stayed at a Marine base at Kane'ohé--north of Honolulu. << We had an excellent view of Pyramid Rock from our quarters. The base also sported a mock up of the Iwo Jima statue. Somehow, it looks better here than in DC. Big fat rainbows abound on Hawaii: we experienced several great ones. |

We also enjoyed the flowers and birds as we went to various sections of the Isle of O'ahu in our rental car. The flower is a Hibiscus and the bird is a Red Crested Cardinal introduced from Brazil.
We found a dive operation on base and signed up for a Sunday dive. We knew it would be too crowded for the best experience, but given our schedule we went anyway. The dive boat was a sailing catamaran--a first for us. |
