Ginny & Dean's Excellent Adventure

This was really the first of Ginny and Dean's Excellent Adventures.  We started across country to meet up with Dean's sister Judy and her family at the Deschutes River in northern Oregon.  We didn't know that we'd end up in Guam, but "Be flexible." is our motto for traveling.

The Indiana Dunes at the southern tip of Lake Michigan east of Chicago was the first stop after a 14 hour marathon drive from MD.  Not many people there at sunrise--quite peaceful.

We crossed the Mississippi at the Quad Cities area of Moline & Rock Island, Illinois and Davenport & Bettendorf,  Iowa.  The paddle wheelers are casinos, of course.

The Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD is a theater/auditorium and basketball arena - Lawrence Welk appeared there five times!  It is redecorated each year with corn and other vegetation. This has been a tradition here since the early 1900's - this year the theme was Lewis and Clark's Expedition.

Then we headed west toward the Badlands.  We didn't know how beautiful they'd be.

We camped right in The Badlands campground - we hiked the Saddle Trail and witnessed
the above sunset right from our campsite.

Sunrise was even more spectacular as we watched two mule deer does - each with two fawns.
This tree really jumped out in the early morning light.
