Viking Atlantic Cossing—Mar. 2025: <<Part 1 Part 2 Part 3>> Part 4>> Part 5>>

Montevideo, Uruguay

Similar to Buenos Aires, we were here in 2012 (halfway down that page) & in 2020 (when we spent 20 days there).

We took an included tour, which started with a fun Carnaval performance.

Including a guy dressed like a cruiser who doubts that the spirits are real.

He is convinced, finally.

After an hour-long show, the performers exit the stage.

And last to exit were the percussion. After the show we notified our tour guide that we would walk back to the ship.

We visted our old hotel, and told the staff that we'd stayed there for 20 days in 2020. They gave us cups of coffee from the breakfast bar, which was nice. Then we walked around our old neighborhood.

There was some new street art.

And some new urban green spaces.

We enjoyed seeing Montevideo again.

Rio de Janiero, Brazil

We visited Río on the 2012 world cruise, on the 2019 South American cruise, and twice in 2020 #1 & 2020 #2 (halfway down that page), so check out those webpages to see what we did then.

The iconic Sugarloaf Mountain as we sailed in.
To the right in the background is Corcovado Peak with Christ-the-Redeemer statue.

Flights of Boobies escorted our ship into the harbor.

Kayaking teams...

This Neo-Gothic palace on Ilha Fiscal in the harbor used to be the Customs House, but is now a museum.

The Science museum

Dean escorted a tour to the famous Christ the Redeemer statue. Here is an abstract likeness at the entrance to the tram.

As you might expect, the view is amazing from the top.

The view to the top of Sugarloaf and its cable car.

From the bus back to the ship.

I escorted a tour to the botantical garden. Of course, we could see Christ the Redeemer from there.

People were more interested in the monkeys than the plants.

It was a beautiful day and people liked the tour.
