Key West--12/03: << Part 1 << Part 2  << Part 3  Part 4 Part 5 >>

<< This guy was on the cover of a Key West magazine called "Local Color" - with  a skeleton on his bike we agreed that he was part of the scene.

He makes cool baskets, though...

You can go up in the lighthouse and tour the keeper's cottage.

The old man and the sea??

Porch & Garden Art

With a tree growing in the middle of the historic Tony's Bar and all the stuff, including reflective license plates, hanging from the ceiling, we thought it was worth a photo. >>

<< We ate at Hog's Breath Saloon.  Their motto is: "Hog's Breath is better than no breath at all!"

We took this FastCat out to the Dry Tortugas - a 2-hour trip, 68 miles west of Key West.   The design of the boat provides a fairly smooth ride even over some rough seas.  Even so the ride back was bumpy enough to feel like a thrill ride in an amusement park.

They served us breakfast and lunch as part of the deal.

Fort Jefferson was a large fort that was important during the Civil War.  Dr. Mudd was imprisoned here for his crime of setting Booth's leg after he shot Lincoln.  As a doctor, though, he went on to help many people who'd been infected with Yellow Fever. (Learn more.)

The frigate birds soared above the fort - these photos don't do justice to their majesty - their wing span can be more than 7ft!

The snorkeling was best out by the reef- marker buoys 150 yards away from the shore.  Great coral,  lots of fish and fewer people.  The sea planes get you out here more quickly and expensively.

We came back just before sunset to capture yet another view of people waiting to view it on Mallory Square...

Up to the Everglades >>
