Rio (cont.)

Sunrise from the ship. This was our third and last day in Rio, so we headed in the other direction from where'd we'd been before.

This and the art below was in the port area and again, was probably done for the Olympics.

A hummingbird with a forked tail...

Floats were being transported from the end of the parade route back to their storage places.

A metaphoric trash fish...

Cleaning up after the party...

A Rufous-bellied Thrush

The celebration was still in full force.

But the floats were being walked home...

A tight fit meant that the semi circular extensions had to be lifted to squeeze through this narrow spot in the road.

As we pulled away...

Here's the view of the whole structure that we had seen at the end of the dock.

The end of that event dock included a pool and a fountain.

This had been a good visit to Rio, but now there were a couple of sea days where I had to work.

Forteleza, Brazil

We were thinking of taking the train out from town, but the scheduling didn't work.

We loved this frowzy bird in the cemetery: a Guira Cuckoo.

Sharpening a knife on the metal support beam...

The food on that griddle smelled really good.

Lottery....

This church had 2 figures shrouded in purple.

Colonial architecture... some in better shape than others.

We visited the famous José de Alencar Theater.

A market space that was not in use when we were there...

The base of an old lighthouse.

We could see our ship from the base of the lighthouse. Note all the wind turbines to supply electricity for the port.

Also from the lighthouse hill looking back up the beach in the other direction...

Cute girls who were gathered near the lighthouse.

Our beer bar, near the lighthouse and just outside the port gate. The beer was much appreciated. We called it a day...

On to Santarem... >>
